If you follow me on either Facebook or Instagram, you might know I'm doing a Whole30 in tandem with AIP this month. And boy do I need that in my life right now. The run up to Christmas had me baking cakes and cookies, making sweets and treats for parties, testing those delicious raw bars which I hope you tried, and polishing off half eaten packets of dried dates just because. The first two or three days in January were not pretty, but I found the best way to beat the evil cravings was to eat liver paté (without strawberries) like it was going out of fashion and avocados, which I'm now craving instead. Oh yes, and green smoothies!
So it seems only fitting that this month's post for autoimmune-paleo was written with my clean January in mind. Though it's the quickest of recipes, this smoothie is full of vital nutrients, all of which were chosen for their ability to rid the body of unwanted toxins and cleanse and balance the system. With all sorts of adjective wonderfulness rolled into one: crisp, cooling and tangy, a bit of pepper kale piquancy here and a zing of ginger there, not to mention a frothy kelly green appearance, you just know it'll do you a whole heap of good. So pop on over there, bust out the blender, start sipping and get thee healing!
Did you make any New Year resolutions? I got myself straight to the doc and ordered an MOT. After all, you do that for your car each year, so why not your bod?
• Listening (over and over) to this. Kate Rusby's voice is unbelievably beautiful and I can't understand how, in all the years she's been performing, I've only just heard of her. She's also from Yorkshire, which is where I was born. I'm mad for this one too!
• Reading up on Adrenal Fatigue whilst I await the results of my recent MOT.
• Skiing for the first time in two years. Yippee, snow has finally fallen and settled on our Vancouver mountains. This is one of the reasons we decamped to this beautiful place so we are beyond delighted, check it out.
• Love, love, loving Eileen's brand spanking new book, Simple Guide to the Paleo Autoimmune Protocol, which I know you are going to feel the same about. No brainer!
Have a great week, lovely people and find today's recipe over here 🙂
We've kicked off our AIP with a January Whole 30, and I am sooo missing my wee treats. But more so, my espresso. 12 days in, and I still think it'll be the first thing I try to re-introduce. Also for us, the first days of January were a little ugly!
I haven't thought to venture into Green Smoothie territory, but I do have soup prepared in the fridge for whenever I need a pick-me-up.
My best discovery is Tumeric Tea with AIP friendly spices and ginger. That, first thing in the morning, could well be developing into a good habit.
Cheers!
Good to hear you're having fun with your Whole30 😉 . I was never a coffee drinker so that part is easy and thankfully I'm over the worst so it should be plain sailing from here on in (famous last words!). Spiced turmeric tea sounds wonderful, unfortunately my son is allergic to both turmeric and ginger so I've given up using them - although I could have a sneaky cuppa when he's at school I guess 🙂
MOT? Your link takes us to something about a car, but your post says you do it for your car why not your bod? WHAT? is it? I'm doing a Winter Detox with Shannon Garrett appropriate for all autoimmune diseases. I made commitments for the New Year, get rid of "stuff", move more and to step up my dental hygiene care.
The link is correct. I was pointing out that in England your car (once it is over a certain age) has to have a mandatory test for roadworthiness so if we pay several hundred dollars on our motors, it shouldn't be so strange to do the same for our bodies.
Anyway, I'm glad you're having a good clean up and hope it does a lot of help 🙂
